  • Modest midweek gains for soybeans

    Soybeans were modestly higher on short covering and technical buying. Soybeans also had some help from the higher move in meal, which continues to respond to the solid domestic crush demand. Still, export demand for U.S. meal has slowed down, with the world’s largest exporter of soybean products, Argentina, producing a much larger crop this year. Soybean oil was mixed, adjusting spreads. The trade continues to monitor harvest activity in Argentina and Brazil. ANEC projects Brazil’s April 2024 soybean exports at 13.74 million tons, compared to last week’s guess of 12.73 million. ...     

  • Year-Round E15 Act introduced in U.S. House

    A bill has been introduced in the U.S. House that would allow E15 to be sold during the 2024 summer driving season. Congressman Zach Nunn says the Year-Round E15 Act wouldn’t have been necessary if the U.S. EPA would have enacted year-round sales beginning this year. “This year, (the EPA) is not budging,” he said. “They’re talking about allowing E15 in the out years. I’ve asked the secretary of agriculture to weigh in in support of this. ...     

  • Consumer education programs driving U.S. pork demand in Central America

    Exports of U.S. pork to Central America continue to grow and the U.S. Meat Export Federation says consumer education programs help drive demand. Lucia Ruano says funding from the USDA and the National Pork Board helped showcase the quality and versatility of U.S. pork to consumers. “They can learn the nutritional facts because we bring experts to these types of workshops where they can have all that information first hand from doctors and nutritionists,” he says.  She says the Girls Can Grill series of workshops, in which educators taught consumers how to properly prepare U.S. ...     

  • Planting progress seemingly normal

    A mid-Michigan farmer says soils have been too cold and wet to get an early jump on planting. Andrew Braun tells Brownfield, “It’s warmer right now, but it’s supposed to cool off here the later half of this week and into the next week.” “We probably won’t get started until maybe later next week if we do or the first part of May is probably more typical for us,” he shares. ...
